Product Description:
The 3DI450.60-9 digital input module is produced by B & R Automation for the System 2005 Controllers series. The unit occupies a single-width slot on the I/O backplane and provides 16 discrete input points for monitoring sensors, switches, and proximity devices in machine control systems. By translating field-level 24 V signals into logic-level data, the module allows the CPU to supervise equipment status, coordinate sequences, and log events in automated manufacturing cells.
The module handles 16 digital inputs divided into four electrically separated groups, each powered from a 24 VDC nominal supply. Within those groups, there are 4 counter inputs, and the associated hardware counts edge transitions at up to 100 kHz, enabling high-speed feedback from encoders or flow meters. The circuit path between each channel cluster and the controller backplane includes channel-to-PLC isolation, which helps prevent ground loops and protects the CPU from field transients. Because group-to-group coupling is blocked, status data arrive with minimal interference, while the absence of isolation between channels in the same group supports compact signal routing and reduces propagation delay.
Debounce timing can be tailored by selecting the integrated filters; channels 1–8 can be limited to ≤1.2 ms, and channels 9–16 can be extended to ≤12 ms to mask contact bounce on slower devices. The front-end logic draws only 2.0 W from the 5 V rail, allowing dense rack layouts without exceeding the power budget. An IP20 protection rating limits the module to enclosed cabinets. Group-to-group isolation is present, input circuits for the first eight points are sink type, and the remaining inputs accept sink or source wiring, providing flexibility when interfacing different sensor standards.
