The 3CP382.60-1 is a modular CPU module produced by B&R Automation for the System 2005 Controllers series. It serves as the primary logic element in a rack-based control system, orchestrating discrete and motion tasks in industrial automation cells. Housed in a compact enclosure for panel mounting, the unit connects to fieldbus couplers and up to three APCI expansion cards, allowing flexible adaptation of digital, analog, or specialized I/O while remaining within a 0 to 60 °C operating range.
A Pentium III 500 processor drives the module, and each machine instruction is completed in just 0.012 µs, enabling deterministic scan cycles for time-critical applications. Program and data storage are handled by 64 MB DRAM, while the dual-bank L1 cache of 2× 16 kB and the unified L2 cache of 256 kB reduce external memory accesses and stabilize throughput. Network communication is supported through an integrated Ethernet port that operates at 10/100 Mbit/s, giving the controller access to supervisory PCs or distributed drives over distances up to 100 m. For device-level links, an RS-232 channel operates up to 115.2 kbit/s, and a USB 1.1 Type A port is available for program loading.
Internal consumption remains low. The logic section draws 4.0 W from the 24 V DC backplane rail, and peripheral circuitry requires 13.0 W at 5 V DC, which simplifies cabinet power budgeting. Protection to IP20 prevents accidental contact with live parts when installed in a closed rack. The electronics tolerate storage temperatures from −25 to 60 °C, and the minimum task granularity of 200 µs allows multiple control loops to coexist. The 100 m Ethernet line length and three APCI slots also provide more flexibility for panel placement and the addition of specialty counter, motion, or safety cards.
