The 3CP360.60-1 central processing module is produced by B & R Automation and belongs to the System 2005 Controllers series. It is designed as the primary CPU unit for mid-range programmable logic controller racks, coordinating task execution, fieldbus communication, and data handling within an automated cell or machine. The module runs the control program, manages data exchange with connected hardware, and supports the timing functions needed for consistent machine operation. Its processing resources and onboard interfaces make it suitable for machines that need centralized logic, recipe handling, and communication with distributed modules.
The module uses a Pentium 266 processor supported by 32 MByte DRAM for dynamic program memory. Two separate level 1 caches of 2 × 16 kByte accelerate instruction and data retrieval, while an L2 cache of 512 kByte further reduces external memory access latency. Application data that must survive a power cycle is stored in 256 kByte of retained variables, and an additional 496 kByte of user SRAM is available for high-speed buffering. One APCI expansion slot and a single CompactFlash slot permit local I/O cards and removable storage to be added without widening the controller. A real-time clock with 1-second resolution supports time-stamped logging in batch or trace functions. Network traffic is handled through a shielded RJ45 connector operating at 10/100 MBit/s, and serial diagnostics can be performed over the RS232 port, which supports transfer rates up to 115.2 kBit/s.
The front panel also carries a USB 1.1 interface for service access and recipe downloads. Environmental protection is rated at IP20, so the CPU must be mounted inside a cabinet, yet its thermal load is low at only 3.0 W from the 24 V DC supply. An RS232 connection is provided on a 9-pin D-Sub plug, maintaining compatibility with legacy tools. The mix of Ethernet, USB, and serial connectivity supports local data transfer, basic diagnostics, and communication with surrounding control hardware.
