The 3CP153.9 CPU module is produced by B & R Automation within the System 2005 Controllers series. It serves as the central processing element in a modular PLC rack, coordinating I/O, communication, and logic execution for automated machinery and plant cells. By embedding program memory and two serial communication channels, the unit provides the deterministic control that factory processes, material-handling lines, and motion applications require. Its rack-based design also lets the processor exchange data with installed modules over the internal bus, keeping control functions and interface handling inside one coordinated platform.
The controller starts with 256 KByte SRAM of system memory for user code and variables, supported by an additional 64 KByte dual-ported RAM that allows high-speed data exchange with expansion cards. Each instruction is executed in 0.8 microseconds, so small repetitive sequences can cycle very quickly during runtime. Channel 1 is a serial port that uses the RS232 signaling standard and reaches a maximum throughput of 64 kBaud over shielded cable lengths up to 15 m. This port uses a 9-pin D-type male connector, and because isolation is omitted, it should be wired only to grounded devices with a common reference potential. The module does not act as an expansion master, so any local I/O extensions must be managed through the backplane bus.
