Product Description:
B & R Automation manufactures the 3CP152.90-2 controller module for its System 2005 Controllers series. The unit serves as the central processor in a modular PLC rack, executing machine logic, managing serial communication, and coordinating axis motion inside automated cells. By combining CPU resources, battery-backed memory, and multi-standard networking in one enclosure, it supplies a compact control platform for packaging lines, assembly stations, and process skids that depend on deterministic sequencing of sensors and actuators. Its integrated architecture allows one rack to handle control, communication, and motion tasks without requiring a separate standalone processor.
System performance is supported by a main memory of 256 KByte SRAM, complemented by a dual-ported block of 64 KByte SRAM that exchanges data with local I/O expansions. Each instruction is completed in 0.8 µsec, helping the controller sustain short loop times in high-speed machinery. Despite this processing rate, power draw remains at 6 W, which helps simplify thermal planning in compact cabinets. One expansion master slot accepts an additional module, and numerical control synchronization keeps axis positions aligned with every PLC scan. A single RS232 interface supports point-to-point diagnostics, while one isolated RS485/RS422/TTY channel provides multidrop networking across the plant.
The controller measures 165 × 80 × 110 mm, which supports DIN-rail installation beside I/O slices in space-limited cabinets. The RS232 channel handles data rates up to 64 kBaud, whereas the RS485/RS422/TTY port reaches 347 kBaud for distributed drives or operator terminals. A real-time clock with 1 s resolution time stamps events and supports calendar-based routines. The controller can be stored within a temperature range of −20 to +60 °C without harming onboard components before installation. This combination of compact dimensions, serial connectivity, and onboard timing supports machine layouts that need coordinated control in a small footprint.
