The 3CP152.9 is a central processing module released by B & R Automation for its System 2005 Controllers series. Within a control rack, it acts as the primary CPU card, executing user programs, exchanging data with expansion modules, and issuing real-time commands to field devices in an industrial automation cell. It also coordinates logic execution, timing, and data flow across the rack during normal machine operation.
This module is built around a 2005 CPU that governs deterministic task scheduling while limiting thermal dissipation to 6 W max. User code, retentive variables, and diagnostics are stored in a dual-bank memory totaling 64 + 256 kB, so cycle processing and nonvolatile data can coexist without external memory cards. Serial integration to legacy HMIs or barcode scanners is provided by one RS-232 channel, and its data rate reaches 64 kBaud, which is suitable for point-to-point ASCII exchanges. A second port supports RS-485, RS-422, or TTY signaling and reaches 347 kBaud, allowing the CPU to handle multidrop networks where several drives or remote I/O stations share the same cable.
Hardware access is consolidated on the front panel. The RS-485 interface terminates on a 9-pin D-type (F) connector equipped with galvanic isolation to protect logic circuits from external ground shifts. A system-enable key switch is detachable, which helps restrict unauthorized program changes when the key is removed. Status information is conveyed through multicolor LEDs, enabling quick checks of power, run, and error states. One cold-start button initializes the CPU from a powered-down condition, and a separate reset button performs a warm restart without clearing RAM. An expansion backplane slot is present so a single master segment on port one can link additional I/O carriers.
