The 3BP201.49-01 base plate is produced by B & R Automation as part of the System 2005 Controllers series. It serves as the physical backbone of a rack by tying together controller power rails and field wiring so additional I/O cards can be docked without extra cabling. Because it is a passive carrier rather than an active CPU or power supply, it keeps modules aligned, preserves connector integrity, and simplifies panel assembly in distributed control systems for motion, process, and machine-level tasks. It does not execute control logic on its own, so intelligence and communication functions remain with the installed controller and interface modules.

As a main base plate, the unit occupies the primary position in a System 2005 stack. It has a width of 160 mm and a depth of 20 mm, so it fits shallow enclosure frames while still providing enough surface area for mounting hardware. Four edge guides create a 4-slot backplane, leaving room for up to four signal or power-conditioning cards before a secondary plate is needed. It is a base plate module, so its mounting holes, DIN-rail hooks, and card latches follow the geometry used across the product line. That layout helps cards seat squarely in the connectors and supports consistent spacing between adjacent modules.

Vertical clearance reaches 285 mm, which allows taller daughter cards to fit without interfering with panel doors. Continuous service is supported from 0 to 60 °C, allowing the assembly to remain installed beside drives or relays that generate heat. The plate has no integrated system bus or bus termination, so those functions are handled by adjoining communication modules instead of the carrier itself. All available slots are intended for I/O modules, which plug directly into the card-edge contacts in the plastic frame and receive both mechanical support and backplane connectivity through a single insertion action.
