The 3BP154.4 backplane module is produced by B&R Automation for the System 2005 Controllers series. It serves as the mounting and communication base in a modular control system, providing physical slots and integrated buses that tie the processor, power supply, and I/O slices into a single node. By centralizing these links, the unit simplifies wiring inside control cabinets and forms the backbone that lets industrial sequence logic, motion tasks, and field signals exchange data in real time. This layout also keeps neighboring modules connected through a shared internal path rather than separate point-to-point wiring.
The module uses an automatic addressing method, so each inserted device is detected by the controller without manual switches. Internal communication moves over the 2005 Bus, a proprietary high-speed backplane that carries both data and operating voltage. A total of 8 physical positions are available, allowing CPU, I/O, and special-function cards to share the same rail segment. Electrical feeding is organized by slots 1-2, which are reserved for the power supply so the energy path stays close to the control electronics. To minimize signal length between logic and supply regulation, the CPU must be installed next to the power supply, a placement rule enforced by the backplane traces.
Backplane services include I/O Bus, System Bus, and Supply, allowing simultaneous transport of process variables, configuration data, and 5 V logic power. The first addressable position presented to the controller is slot 3, and the module that occupies it receives the starting address 1, which keeps numbering predictable during diagnostics.
