Product Description:
The 3BP152.4 backplane carrier is produced by B & R Automation as part of the System 2005 Controllers series. It forms the structural and electrical base that links the central processor, power supply, and discrete or analog I/O modules used in factory-floor PLC installations. By providing fixed slot positions and a predefined address scheme, the unit streamlines the assembly of modular control stations and supports deterministic communication between neighboring modules. This arrangement helps keep module placement consistent and makes cabinet layouts easier to organize.
The carrier’s cabinet footprint is constrained by a width of 360 mm, a height of 165 mm, and a depth of 23 mm, allowing high-density mounting in shallow enclosures. An IP20 protection rating is maintained when all slots are populated, limiting access to live conductors while remaining suitable for ventilated control panels. The aluminum profile fastens directly onto a DIN EN 50022 35 × 7.5 mm rail, and integral holes also permit direct screw mounting where rails are not used. Addressing starts at slot 3 with address 1, so inserted I/O modules take fixed logical positions that match the configuration software. Dummy modules must be inserted into open positions to preserve bus continuity and maintain enclosure protection.
Total capacity is fixed at a 9-slot layout. Positions 1 and 2 are reserved as power supply slots 1 and 2, leaving seven locations for signal handling modules. The internal bus allows an expansion capacity of 1 power supply + 7 I/O modules without additional backplane pieces, matching the main backplane limit for connected participants. Thermal spacing inside the cabinet is supported by a required 20 mm side clearance on both ends of the carrier, which helps airflow remove module heat. When more field channels are needed, a second carrier can be added in the adjacent rail segment, provided that dummy boards occupy any unused slots so the segment remains electrically closed.
