The 3BP152 baseplate is manufactured by B&R Automation within the System 2005 Controllers series. It forms the mechanical and electrical backbone for a compact programmable logic controller configuration, receiving a CPU module, a power section, and field I/O cards in fixed positions. The internal bus transfers data and power among those modules, so the control system can support coordinated motion, safety, or process control functions without separate ribbon cables or terminal blocks. Because the modules plug directly into the carrier, signal paths stay organized and the assembly remains compact inside a control cabinet. This arrangement also reduces point-to-point wiring between core controller components.

Nine backplane positions allow the carrier to hold CPU, communication, and field I/O hardware, and the count of 9 slots sets the local limit for one control node. Power input hardware is assigned to Slots 1-2, which keeps the high-current feed at the edge of the board and shortens trace length. Logical addressing starts at Slot 3 = Address 1, so subsequent modules increment automatically without manual jumper settings. Up to 7 I/O modules can be added for process signals in the remaining positions. This fixed slot order keeps power distribution separate from the logic and I/O sections and makes module placement more predictable.

The frame measures 165 × 360 × 23 mm, so it fits shallow cabinets and still leaves room for wiring ducts. Installation relies on a mounting rail, allowing the assembly to clip into place and slide laterally when access is needed. A protection rating of IP20 means the carrier is touch-safe but should remain inside a closed cabinet to avoid dust or fluid ingress. Maintaining a lateral gap of 20 mm on each side keeps ventilation paths open and allows module plugs to be disengaged without stressing field wiring. The shallow profile also helps when panel depth is limited by door-mounted devices or internal ducting.
