Product Description:
The 3AT660.6 module is a thermocouple input unit supplied by B&R Automation within the System 2005 Controllers series. It digitizes low-level millivolt signals from industrial temperature probes and forwards that data to the local CPU for closed-loop control or monitoring. By embedding cold-junction compensation and multiplexer circuitry, the unit lets the PLC rack accept several common thermocouple types without external signal conditioners. This integration streamlines cabinet wiring and reduces panel depth in process lines, ovens, and environmental chambers. It is suitable for temperature-monitoring tasks where compact I/O placement is important.
During high-speed operation, each channel completes a full analog-to-digital cycle in 116.68 ms when the network base time is 16.67 ms, and choosing a 20 ms base extends the cycle to 130 ms. The converter provides a precision of >14-bit, so small temperature variations remain discernible after scaling. System power budgeting is simple because the card dissipates only 6.0 W, which helps limit added heat inside a control cabinet. Eight isolated inputs are available for multiple sensing points, and an enclosure rating of IP20 confirms that installation is limited to protected control cabinets.
The specified ambient window of 0 to 60 °C matches typical control-panel climates, while storage limits of -25 to 70 °C allow the module to be kept safely when it is not installed. Cold-junction accuracy is maintained by internal compensation between -20 and 80 °C and by an external reference range of -100 to 200 °C. The card digitizes a differential signal span of -15 to +55 mV, which aligns with Type J (-200 to 950 °C), Type K (-200 to 1300 °C), and Type L (-200 to 900 °C) thermocouples routed through its two input groups. The two input groups support orderly routing of multiple thermocouple circuits through the card.
