Product Description:
The 3AT450.6 module is a resistance-measurement input card produced by B&R Automation for the System 2005 Controllers series. Mounted beside the CPU, it digitizes temperature-dependent resistances so the control program can supervise process heat, start cooling fans, or safeguard equipment. Conditioned data is delivered to the backplane without external transducers, reducing wiring complexity in industrial cabinets. This makes it suitable for machine tools, packaging lines, and HVAC installations that demand precise thermal monitoring.
Each of the four channels performs resistance acquisition through a constant measurement current of 2.5 mA, and the input type is dedicated to resistance measurement rather than voltage or thermocouple signals. The sensor wiring uses a 4-wire configuration that compensates for lead resistance, and the module applies a first-order Bessel filter with a cutoff at 8 Hz to suppress high-frequency noise before conversion. Resolution reaches 13500 steps, enabling fine discrimination of small resistance changes, while basic accuracy at 20 °C is held within ±0.1%. Automatic linearization inside the module maps raw resistance to temperature without additional PLC code, and an integrated converter handles the sampling procedure.
The module accepts 4 inputs, and although there is no input-to-input isolation, it provides input-to-PLC isolation so the backplane circuitry remains protected from electrical transients. Long-term precision from 0 °C to 60 °C remains within ±0.15%, meeting typical plant accuracy targets. When paired with PT100 sensors that conform to IEC/EN 60751, it outputs standardized temperature data consistent across multiple systems. Power draw is only 4 W, which simplifies enclosure cooling calculations while leaving ample capacity for additional I/O cards.
