The 3AO350.6 is an analog output module produced by B&R Automation for use in the System 2005 Controllers series. Installed in a backplane beside the CPU, it translates digital setpoints into regulated voltages that drive actuators, variable-speed drives, or proportional valves in automated machinery. By adding isolated analog outputs to a controller rack, this module lets a machine builder implement closed-loop control of pressure, flow, or speed without external signal conditioners.

The unit provides 8 independent channels, each capable of delivering a symmetric range of ±10 V. A built-in converter with 12-bit resolution divides that span into 4096 discrete steps, so the controller can fine-tune a signal in roughly 5 mV increments. Every channel is refreshed within 250 µs, supporting high-speed control loops common in motion or process applications. Basic linearity is held to ±0.25% at 20 °C, limiting offset or gain error across the full scale. The outputs include short-circuit protection to withstand wiring faults. The channels share a common reference, while the PLC-side circuitry remains galvanically separated from the field wiring. There is no additional channel-to-channel isolation on the output side.

Total consumption is split between a logic rail of 1.0 W at 5 V DC and a field rail of 4.0 W at 24 V DC, making the module easy to size within compact power budgets. Its housing carries an IP20 rating, so it is intended for cabinets where tool-access protection is adequate. Operation is specified from 0 °C to 60 °C with 5% to 95% noncondensing humidity, and storage is allowed down to -25 °C. An LED status indicator provides immediate converter diagnostics. With a total dissipation of 5 W, thermal loading inside the enclosure remains moderate, helping surrounding System 2005 components stay within their temperature limits.
