Product Description:
The 3AM055.6 analog I/O module is produced by B&R Automation for the System 2005 Controllers series. Mounted beside a CPU module, it adds mixed analog measurement and control so the system can monitor process sensors and command field devices from the same rack. Designed for plant equipment that demands centralized signal conditioning, the unit transforms low-level signals into numerical data and reconverts calculated setpoints into voltage outputs. It draws operating energy from the 24 V dc and 5 V dc supply rails distributed through the System 2005 backplane.
The module has 5 analog input channels with differential wiring to reduce ground noise. Each channel is digitized at 12-bit resolution, giving 4096 discrete steps across the programmable range. The differential front end features 2 MΩ of impedance, so it minimally loads thermocouples, transmitters, or potentiometer wipers. Measurement fidelity is quantified by a conversion error of only ±0.05% at 25 °C, allowing precise feedback for closed-loop algorithms. For ratiometric sensors, the card sources a stabilized reference of +10 V. Its internal regulator maintains this rail within ±0.02% while supplying up to 40 mA, so position or force transducers receive repeatable excitation.
The module has 3 voltage output channels for reconstructing analog setpoints generated by the CPU. Under calibrated conditions, their deviation remains within ±0.3% maximum at 25 °C, which is adequate for most proportional valves and inverter references. Each driver stage is short-circuit proof, automatically limiting current during wiring faults and restoring normal operation after the fault clears. The housing carries an IP20 rating, so it must be installed inside a closed control cabinet but requires no additional gasketing. With 5.5 W drawn from the 24 V rail and 1.5 W from the 5 V rail, total module dissipation does not exceed 7.0 W.
