Product Description:
B&R Automation manufactures the 3AM051.6 analog mixed I/O module for the System 2005 Controllers series. As an expansion slice, it provides both input and output channels so a CPU can read field signals and send analog control values from one module position. In distributed machines, it converts plant-level analog signals into numeric data the controller can process for regulation, monitoring, and operating feedback. This mixed arrangement is useful where cabinet space is limited and both sensing and actuation must be handled close to the controller rack.
The module uses the backplane’s 24 Vdc rail for 5.0 W and the auxiliary 5 Vdc rail for 1.5 W. It accepts 4 analog inputs wired as differential pairs, which helps reduce the effect of common-mode noise on low-level measurements. Each input channel is digitized by a 12-bit converter, and the resulting values are transferred to the CPU as INT words. Input accuracy is held within ±0.1% at 25 °C, supporting stable measurement of connected analog devices. There is no channel-to-channel isolation, but each input block remains galvanically separated from the PLC bus to help prevent ground-loop problems. At power-up, an internal enable relay keeps the outputs inactive until the controller applies a valid configuration.
On the output side, the unit provides 4 analog outputs that share the same galvanic barrier toward the CPU. Each channel includes short-circuit protection, and output values are converted back to voltage with ±0.15% at 25 °C precision. The stated load of 50 Ω is the minimum resistance required for accurate operation on the relevant analog connection. The enclosure has an IP20 rating, which means it is finger-safe and intended for installation inside a control cabinet. Because channel-to-channel isolation is not provided, signal returns should be routed carefully to reduce crosstalk between adjacent channels.
