The 3AI375.6 is an analog input module manufactured by B & R Automation for the System 2005 Controllers series. Mounted on the system backplane, it accepts differential voltage signals from field transducers and converts them into integer data the PLC CPU can process. The board forms the electrical interface between sensors and control logic, enabling continuous monitoring of variables such as pressure, temperature, and position in automated machinery. Integrated software diagnostics help with setup by flagging configuration errors and reporting internal status to the engineering tool.
The hardware provides 8 input channels, and each channel is configured for a 0 to 10 V span with differential measurement so ground shifts do not affect readings. A front-end resistance of 2 MΩ loads the source lightly and minimizes sensor heating. The successive-approximation converter provides 12-bit resolution, yielding 4096 discrete codes across the range. With a conversion time of <1 ms, the module supports closed-loop tension control and vision inspection. There is no channel isolation, yet a PLC isolation barrier breaks ground loops between the field wiring and the controller.
Measurement quality is supported by a calibrated tolerance of ±0.1 % at 25 °C, which limits gain and offset drift during normal ambient operation. The enclosure has an IP20 rating, indicating finger-safe terminals but requiring installation inside a cabinet. After conversion, each sample is delivered on the backplane in INT format, so ladder and structured-text instructions can process the values without added scaling. Power draw on the 24 Vdc and 5 Vdc rails combines to 4.5 W, allowing multiple modules to share the same supply without exceeding slot power budgets. Firmware diagnostics also report overvoltage events and internal temperature, helping detect faults promptly.
