Product Description:
The ECPWP4-4 is a measurement and processing module produced by B & R Automation for the ECP Multi Control Modules series. It sits inside a control rack and links ultrasonic wiring system (Uws) sensors with the machine PLC. By handling acquisition, conversion, and forwarding of displacement values, the module supports position feedback tasks in packaging lines, gantry stages, and other automated equipment. This rack-based arrangement keeps sensor handling centralized and reduces the need for separate external conversion hardware near the machine.
The front panel carries 4x 9-pin D-sub (F) connectors, each assigned to signal and power lines for an individual sensor. Inside, 4 dedicated distance processors run in parallel, so all channels can be sampled without multiplex delays. The device captures travel up to 12.8 m, which allows sensors to be installed far from the controller when the machine layout requires long measurement paths. Minimum resolution is 0.01 mm, and reproducibility better than <0.01 mm keeps repeated readings closely grouped during successive measurement cycles. A stabilized supply of ±15 VDC (±5%) is routed to every port to energize the transducers and their internal reference circuitry.
The power section sources up to 50 mA on the −15 V rail and 70 mA on the +15 V rail, so multiple connected sensors can draw current at the same time without reducing supply stability. Signal integrity is preserved through Uws-to-PLC isolation, which separates field voltages from logic grounds. An additional barrier between Uws channels helps limit interference from one sensor path to another during continuous operation. This separation supports stable data transfer when the module is processing several displacement signals in the same rack at the same time.
