Product Description:
B & R Automation manufactures the ECPT81-0 as part of its ECP Multi Control Modules series. This plug-in board is a temperature acquisition module that terminates platinum resistance thermometers and forwards converted data to the central control system. When installed in a backplane, it provides direct thermal feedback so the controller can adjust process parameters, issue alarms, or shut down equipment when temperature limits are exceeded. Its role is focused on measurement input, making it suitable for machines and process sections that depend on stable thermal monitoring rather than general-purpose analog acquisition.
The module supplies 8 separate input channels, and each channel uses a three-wire configuration that compensates for lead resistance in the attached conductors. A constant excitation current of 2 mA passes through every PT100 element, and the returning voltage is digitized at 10-bit resolution. Sampling speed reaches 3 ms/channel, allowing the controller to refresh temperature values with minimal delay during process changes. Each converter accepts signals over a -25 to +475 °C range, so the same card can monitor both sub-ambient areas and hotter process zones. Shielded cabling is recommended to reduce induced noise, and the stated precision at 20 °C for the full span is suited to closed-loop temperature supervision in industrial cabinets.
Long-term stability is supported by a gain drift of ±0.017 %/°C, while offset drift remains limited across the full measurement span. Sensors up to 600 Ω are accepted, which supports extended-length probes and RTD elements built to the DIN 43760 standard. Hardware linearization reduces calculation demand on the CPU, so the controller can read corrected temperature values without performing that conversion in software. The card does not provide galvanic isolation between field wiring and logic grounds, so panel layout and grounding practice remain important when the module is installed near variable-frequency drives or contactors.
