Product Description:
The ECPIF3-0 is an interface module produced by B&R Automation as part of the ECP Multi Control Modules series. It extends a controller rack with additional serial and parallel ports so that programmable logic controllers can exchange data with printers, programming terminals, or auxiliary drives within an automation cell. By housing both RS232 and current-loop TTY channels next to a Centronics line, the unit allows different device classes to be attached to the same master without extra gateways.
On the parallel side, a 34-pin male Centronics connector is provided, and only one Centronics interface is present, which keeps address decoding simple. That port reaches the backplane through a flat plug connection, eliminating the need for a ribbon cable header on the CPU card. The asynchronous serial section supports two channels that exit the front panel through two 25-pin D-type female connectors. Each channel can operate at up to 19,200 baud, which matches the speed commonly used by programming terminals and similar peripherals. When powered from the +8 V rail, the board draws 2.2 W, a figure that helps with low-voltage supply sizing. The module does not support multi-expansion racks, so it must reside in the primary frame.
Serial signaling options are split between RS232 and TTY. Handshake monitoring over RS232 is limited to DSR and DCD, and there is no isolation or onboard protection circuit for this standard, so cable runs should not exceed 10 m. By contrast, the current-loop TTY channels include receiver-side isolation and a dedicated protection network, which allows wiring distances up to 200 m. The selectable protocol family is RS232/TTY, and exactly two serial interfaces are available to the user. Because RS232 isolation, RS232 protection, and multi-expansion support are not implemented, any external surge suppression or rack extension must be handled at the system level.
