The ECNT44-0 is a dedicated power module produced by B & R Automation for the ECN PLC Power Supplies series. Installed on the backplane of ECN controllers, the unit converts a single-phase mains feed into multiple regulated DC rails needed by CPUs, I/O cards, and relay blocks. By delivering isolated voltages in one chassis-mounted assembly, the supply reduces wiring complexity and helps maintain stable control power throughout an industrial automation cabinet.

This supply accepts a nominal input of 240 VAC while drawing no more than 1 A from the mains, so it can share breakers with low-current control circuits. Internally, it generates three simultaneous rails: +8 V rated for 65 W, +15 V rated for 100 W, and -30 V rated for 30 W. The three rails are intended to support different load types, and the stated total output budget means the combined load must remain within the module's overall capacity. Surge energy from switching devices is clamped by a built-in Varistor, protecting downstream electronics against line spikes. Extended diagnostics are provided through the system bus, and these reports can flag overtemperature, overcurrent, and rail imbalance conditions so the PLC can respond before a shutdown occurs.

For field circuits that must be galvanically separated, the module includes a relay interface. The coil withstands up to 4000 Vrms between contacts and electronics, helping protect the logic section against high-potential faults. When energized, the contact block can transfer up to 2000 VA / 150 W, which allows it to switch loads such as solenoids or indicator lamps directly. During de-energization, relay arcing is limited to a transient of only 250 Vrms, which can reduce contact wear and help limit electrical noise on nearby signal lines. This arrangement lets the same module provide power conversion and isolated switching within compact PLC racks where control and field circuits are mounted close together.
