The APCBB3/2 is an automation PC manufactured by B&R Automation and belongs to the APC Industrial Automation PC Units series. Installed in a control cabinet, the unit acts as the central computing platform for motion sequences, data acquisition, and HMI tasks on manufacturing lines. Designed for embedded use, it combines processor logic, field interfaces, and buffered memory so that machine software can run deterministic cycles without requiring separate PLC hardware. This arrangement suits compact machine architectures where control, communication, and visualization functions need to remain in one cabinet device.
The computer includes two Ethernet adapters that reach throughput up to 1 Gbit/s, allowing synchronized communication with real-time networks and plant servers. The dual ports simplify line or ring topologies and allow segmented network access when different traffic types must remain separated. For local expansion, the chassis offers USB 2.0 compatibility through 5 USB ports, giving direct access for backups, cameras, or service keys. The logic section is supplied from a control voltage of 24 VDC, and the internal converters draw a nominal load of 6 A when all interfaces are active. Physical connection to the field layer is completed through 2 Ethernet ports that can be independently configured for routing, redundancy, or separate subnet operation.
To safeguard data, a power-failure buffer of 10 ms maintains logic voltage long enough for the controller to store process images to the battery-backed 512 kB SRAM and to the 192 kB remanent variable area. The cabinet-mounted IP20 housing protects the electronics against finger contact and settled dust. This short buffer interval helps preserve important runtime values during brief supply interruptions instead of allowing an immediate drop in logic power. Additional resources include AC97-grade audio, two CompactFlash slots for removable storage, dual RS-232 serial ports for legacy diagnostics, and a female DVI-I connector that drives a remote panel without occupying bandwidth on the primary field network.
