The APCBB1/7 is an industrial automation PC unit manufactured by B & R Automation as part of the APC Industrial Automation PC Units series. Designed for panel or cabinet mounting, the unit hosts a Pentium-class computing platform that executes soft-PLC kernels, HMI services, and fieldbus gateways within a single enclosure. By combining processor, chipset, memory, and graphics on one board, the computer replaces separate controllers and minimizes wiring inside packaging lines, printing systems, and general machinery.
The unit employs an Intel Pentium M CPU running at 1400 MHz. The processor interfaces with the Intel 82855GME / 82801DB chipset, while the front-side bus is clocked at 400 MHz, matching memory and I/O pacing. Fast context switching is helped by a 2 MB second-level cache and a 32 kB first-level cache, both on-die, so deterministic execution is maintained for PLC tasks. The single DDRAM socket accepts up to 1 GB of system memory, allowing small HMI projects or soft-PLC runtimes to share adequate RAM footprint.
Graphics resources are integrated; an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 controller draws from shared system RAM. The engine outputs a maximum desktop resolution of 2048 × 1536 @ 60 Hz, driven by a 350 MHz RAMDAC to analog RGB ports. Color is rendered at 32-bit depth so gradient-rich SCADA screens are not band-limited. Two IDE channels support ATA transfers in UDMA 100 mode; the channels present 2 device connectors for compact Flash-to-IDE adapters or rotating media. This storage bandwidth matches the chipset’s IDE controller, allowing buffer-free logging of machine data. Combined with 32-bit color support and the chipset’s graphics pipeline, the PC unit fulfills motion-control visualization and data acquisition duties without external expansion.
