Product Description:
The APC810 is an industrial automation PC manufactured by B&R Automation as part of the APC Industrial Automation PC Units series. Installed inside control cabinets, it serves as the central processing node for motion control, data acquisition, and visualization tasks, linking field devices with higher-level plant networks through its integrated communication interfaces. Its cabinet-mounted design helps keep the computing platform close to machine I/O while protecting it from routine exposure on the factory floor during daily operation. This arrangement also supports short cable runs between the controller and adjacent cabinet devices.
This unit operates from a regulated 24 VDC supply, allowing direct connection to common machine power buses without an auxiliary converter. Two CompactFlash sockets accept 2 x Type I cards, so application code and recipe files can be stored on removable media. Gigabit networking is supported, and each Ethernet channel can move data at up to 1 Gbit/s for fast PLC-to-PLC and SCADA exchanges. Legacy serial diagnostics remain available through the RS232 ports, which communicate at a ceiling of 115 kbit/s. Volatile program variables are buffered in 512 kB of SRAM, reducing access delays for frequently updated control data.
Non-volatile process states are retained in 192 kB of remanent memory, so counters and production totals survive warm restarts. Five front-panel connectors follow the USB 2.0 standard, supplying 500 mA per port for service tools or barcode scanners. The onboard lithium cell supports real-time clock operation for about 2.5 years before planned replacement. Should the DC rail collapse unexpectedly, a dedicated capacitor bank maintains logic for 10 ms, giving the control system time to write final values and shut down the file system. Twin shielded RJ45 sockets, a female DVI-I panel link, and two independent Ethernet controllers complete the interface set, allowing the PC to connect to local I/O, operator displays, and plant networks without additional expansion cards.
