The 8JSA31.E9050D000-0 synchronous motor is built by B&R Automation within the 8JS Synchronous Motors series. The unit converts electrical energy into rotational motion for positioning or velocity control in automated machinery such as pick-and-place stations, packaging spindles, and indexing tables. Integrating this permanent-magnet servo motor with a matching drive allows control systems to achieve repeatable motion profiles while maintaining compact installation dimensions. Its short housing also makes the motor suitable for automated equipment with limited space around the driven axis.
The motor is delivered in frame size 3 with length code 1, resulting in a short body that simplifies machine layout. Its nominal speed is 5000 rpm, enabling high cycle rates when paired with appropriate gearing. Heat is removed through self-cooling, so no external blower or liquid circuit is necessary. The housing attaches to machines through flange mounting, providing rigid alignment with the driven equipment. A smooth shaft accommodates backlash-free clamping hubs or couplings. The power and feedback leads exit through an angled swivel connector, which can be rotated to direct cables away from nearby components and moving machine parts.
Position feedback is supplied by an inductive EnDat 2.1 encoder that stores absolute position data across 4096 revolutions and maintains an angular accuracy of ±280 arcseconds. Within a single turn, the sampling electronics provide 18-bit single-turn and 12-bit multi-turn resolution, supporting precise position measurement and stable velocity control. The multi-turn encoder retains the axis position after a power cycle without requiring a battery. Because the motor does not have a holding brake, the drive must provide static torque when the shaft needs to remain fixed. The motor is supplied without an oil seal, making it appropriate for dry environments where lubricant is not expected to migrate toward the bearing journal. Suitable guarding should prevent oil or other process fluids from reaching the unsealed shaft interface during operation.
