The 8BAC122.000-1 is an I/O expansion module produced by B&R Automation for integration into motion systems built around the 8BA ACOPOS Modules series. It conditions and forwards feedback signals from external current transformers or Rogowski coils, allowing the drive controller to monitor motor currents and detect faults in industrial automation cells. The module’s measurement chain tolerates a common-mode potential of up to ±20 V, protecting the internal electronics when the monitored phase shifts away from logic ground. This capability supports reliable current measurement when electrical noise or differences in ground potential affect the connected equipment.
A sigma-delta converter digitizes the incoming waveform at 14-bit resolution, providing sufficient granularity for precise current trend analysis. The transformer excitation source operates at 10 kHz, keeping the sensed signal outside the audible range while minimizing magnetic saturation. The input has an impedance of 10.4 kΩ − j 11.1 kΩ, which places a light load on the secondary winding and helps preserve measurement accuracy across long conductors. Even during full sampling activity, the electronics consume only 1 W, allowing the module to be installed in dense cabinet layouts without adding a substantial thermal load. The measurement circuitry processes the sensor waveform before forwarding the resulting data to the drive controller. Differential signal transmission helps reject electrical interference that could otherwise distort low-level feedback signals.
Cabling between the current sensor and the module can extend up to 100 m without exceeding the stated accuracy limits. The cable shield terminates at a 9-pin male D-Sub connector that locks securely to the housing and provides a stable connection in environments subject to vibration. The internal auxiliary supply can provide 50 mA RMS at a typical output of 3 V RMS to energize compatible passive sensors. A fixed transformation ratio of 0.5 ±10% allows the control system to apply a consistent scaling factor when processing measured values. Active monitoring detects signal problems during operation, while differential transmission suppresses common-mode noise along the sensor cable. The module is resistant to overloads and short circuits, reducing the risk of damage from wiring faults or abnormal sensor conditions. It can be installed in slot 1 or slot 2 of the ACOPOS rack and communicates through the rack backplane with the associated drive hardware.
