Product Description:
The 8BAC0123.001-1 encoder interface module is produced by B & R Automation for the 8BA ACOPOS Modules series. It functions as a conditioned feedback channel between a servo motor’s incremental encoder and the ACOPOS drive controller, translating differential line signals into logic levels that the controller can sample at full update rate. By handling signal isolation, power distribution, and edge evaluation on board, it simplifies wiring and broadens the feedback options available to motion axes.
The board is installed only in Slots 1 and 2 of an 8BA rack, where its rear connector mates with the internal bus while external wiring reaches a 15-pin male D-sub connector on the front plate. An integrated regulator provides a stabilized encoder supply of 5 V and mirrors this as a monitored output voltage that remains within ±5 percent to protect sensitive sensors. The module uses 4x evaluation, so both rising and falling transitions on the A and B channels contribute to the position count and increase resolution without mechanical changes. Incoming tracks are restored to a square-wave pulse format, and the encoder channels remain galvanically isolated. Two conductors act as sense lines, and the circuit compensates for up to 2 × 1.5 V of drop along these leads while remaining overload-proof and short-circuit-proof to help prevent backplane faults.
Logic thresholds require a high state above >2.4 V, while a low state must remain below <1.0 V, which improves noise immunity when extended cabling is used. The permitted run between the encoder head and the module reaches 25 m, supporting large machines without repeaters. Reliable operation is specified up to an ambient temperature of 55 °C, matching the ventilation capacity of standard ACOPOS cabinets. These input limits apply during normal encoder signal processing.
