The 8BAC0123.000-1 is a module from the 8BA ACOPOS Modules series by B & R Automation, supporting slots 1 and 2 and utilizing a 15-pin male DSUB connector for module connection. It supplies output voltages of 24 V at ±10% and 5 V at ±5% with load capacities of 300 mA and 350 mA respectively. This module features encoder isolation, signal transmission via RS422, and supports a maximum cable length of 100 meters.
Internal Product Review
The 8BAC0123.000-1 is an ACOPOS encoder module designed for precise feedback integration, with RS422 signal transmission and 4x incremental evaluation. Support for SSI communication at 390 kbaud and a 31-bit word size gives the module strong compatibility with high-resolution encoder applications. Encoder isolation and a max cable length of 100 m make the unit a dependable choice for clean signal handling in industrial motion systems.

Product Description:
B&R Automation manufactures the 8BAC0123.000-1 for integration in motion-control racks that accept 8BA ACOPOS modules. It occupies either slot 1 or slot 2, and its 15-pin male D-sub connector provides both power and signaling for position-feedback devices. The module accepts square-wave and synchronous serial encoder signals, electrically isolates those channels, and forwards them to the drive system so axis controllers can read position and speed data.
The interface routes differential signals over RS422 lines, and incremental tracks are evaluated with a multiplication factor of 4x, allowing the control loop to count each rising and falling edge for improved resolution. For absolute feedback, the SSI channel transmits at 390 kbaud and handles words up to 31 bits, matching common high-resolution encoders. Cable runs may extend to 100 m when proper shielding and the built-in 120 Ω terminating resistor are used, allowing remote installation on large machines. Two sense lines compensate for as much as 1.5 V of drop in each supply rail, helping encoder electronics receive stable voltage at the far end of long harnesses. Incremental and SSI functions share the same connector, simplifying field wiring.
The module furnishes two regulated outputs for external loads: the 24-volt rail can source up to 300 mA, and the 5-volt rail supplies up to 350 mA. The respective voltage tolerances are 24 V ±10% and 5 V ±5%, ensuring encoders operate within their permitted input ranges without additional regulators. Electrical isolation helps prevent ground loops between the drive chassis and remote sensors. Square-wave pulse shaping keeps rising edges clean for accurate timing. The sense lines monitor actual voltage at the connector and feed that information to the onboard regulator, which corrects voltage sag caused by cable impedance in real time.
