Product Description:
The 8BAC0120.000-1 is an encoder and communication module manufactured by B & R Automation for integration into the 8BA ACOPOS Modules series. It mounts on the drive backplane and conditions differential sensor signals so position feedback can be relayed to motion controllers without extra cabling. In industrial automation layouts, it serves as the bridge between field-mounted encoders and centralized servo drives, allowing deterministic transfer of position data while meeting the electrical requirements of the ACOPOS platform.
Data exchanged between the module and the drive network travels through the symmetric differential layer of RS485, a medium selected for noise immunity over long machine runs. Within this channel, the device supports a sustained data rate of 781.25 kbit/s, matching the update needs of high-resolution encoders without saturating the bus. Internally, samples are digitized at a 12-bit resolution, providing 4,096 discrete counts per cycle for later interpolation. The analog front end remains linear up to 300 kHz, so fast incremental tracks are not attenuated. Downstream transducers receive a regulated supply of 5 V ± 5% through the module’s 15-pin male D-Sub signal connector.
Electrical protection includes a common-mode tolerance of ±7 V, allowing the differential inputs to reject ground shifts in distributed cabinets. Two dedicated sense lines monitor voltage drop and permit up to 2 × 0.7 V of compensation, while a built-in 120 Ω terminator can be selected to match the bus impedance. The module recognizes one encoder input and allows remote placement when the shielded twisted-pair cable does not exceed 75 m. Cabinet ventilation requirements remain modest because power dissipation peaks at only 4 W. All stated characteristics remain valid at ambient temperatures up to 55 °C, supporting installation near motors and power electronics.
