B&R Automation manufactures the 5D5500 operator panel within the 5D5 Provit Interface Panels series. Designed for cabinet mounting near production equipment, the unit serves as a human-machine interface that transfers operator commands and status feedback between field devices and a supervisory controller. Its integrated display and keypad allow online parameter entry, fault acknowledgment, and process visualization while avoiding the extra wiring that comes with separate monitors and keyboards. This arrangement keeps routine machine interaction close to the process and gives operators direct access to status screens and command functions at the enclosure door.

The visualization section uses a color TFT module with a luminance rating of 200 cd/m², supporting clear viewing in typical factory lighting. The active display measures 10.4 in diagonally, and the fixed resolution of 640 × 480 pixels keeps text and graphics stable on the screen. A palette of 262,144 display colors helps separate alarm states, trend lines, and machine areas with clear visual contrast. The bezel includes 13 function keys for direct command entry, while 10 membrane soft keys run along the screen edge and can change function with the active menu. A cold-cathode fluorescent lamp backlight provides even illumination across the display, and the brightness can be adjusted through the engineering tool to suit the application.

The front sheet has an IP65 protection rating, allowing the installed panel face to withstand washdown exposure when mounted correctly in a machine door. Data and power can be routed up to 10 m through a single hybrid cable, which supports remote placement of the electronics while keeping the display accessible to the operator. The black housing measures 310 × 387 × 38 mm, fitting common panel layouts without requiring excessive rear clearance. The bezel overhang also helps the gasket seal evenly against the cabinet face, which supports a secure front-mounted installation.
