The 5D2500.17 operator panel is manufactured by B&R Automation and belongs to the 5D2 Control Display Panels series. It combines visualization hardware and keypad inputs so that a PLC or motion controller can be supervised from a single front-mounted unit on the machine door. Its TFT screen provides a resolution of 640 x 480 px, which is enough to show detailed mimic diagrams and alarm lists without scrolling. The embedded 32-bit 80486DX2-66 MHz processor handles graphical updates while communicating through four serial ports, one parallel port, and a dedicated CAN bus line for distributed I/O. Application code and trend buffers reside in 16 MB of DRAM. The electronics are powered from a single 24 VDC supply, which simplifies cabinet wiring. A sealed front membrane rated IP65 protects the circuitry from dust and low-pressure water jets, permitting washdown installation on food or packaging equipment.

The keypad section offers 23 keys fitted with status LEDs plus additional function and numeric keys, bringing the total key count to 43. A durable anodized aluminum frame resists surface abrasion, and the panel accepts removable storage through a CompactFlash Type I slot and a single PC Card slot for recipe transfer. Retentive machine counters are stored in 256 kB of SRAM so they survive power cycling. Despite the metal housing, the unit weighs only 3.20 kg, allowing door mounting without additional reinforcement.
