B & R Automation manufactures the 5A920.1505-01, a panel-mounted human-machine interface from the 5A9 Automation Touch Screens series. Designed for plant-floor visualization, the unit combines a 15-inch color display with an integrated resistive touch layer, allowing operators to initiate commands and review process data on the same surface. By linking to PLCs and controllers through serial and USB channels, the panel serves as an input and status node for distributed control architectures.
The display area measures 15 in on the diagonal and renders graphics at 1024 x 768 pixels, providing adequate resolution for detailed alarm lists and trend plots. A peak luminance of 350 cd/m² supports readability under bright factory lighting, while the contrast ratio of 1000:1 maintains clear separation between foreground objects and backgrounds. An aluminum front bezel rated to IP65 blocks dust and low-pressure water, so the screen can be wiped down without removing power. The touch surface uses analog resistive touch technology that registers finger or gloved contact through pressure on a flexible top layer, and a dedicated Elo serial 12-bit controller converts that pressure map into precise X-Y coordinates for the CPU.
Internal electronics operate from 24 VDC ±25% supplied by the control-cabinet power bus. During peak load, the board draws up to 3.2 A, so circuit protection must accommodate the resulting power demand. The unit includes 3 on-board USB 2.0 connectors that accept memory sticks for recipe transfer and support peripheral devices such as barcode readers. Cabinet layout is simplified by a 54 mm depth, while the front frame spans 435 mm in width and 330 mm in height to fit standard panel openings. An LED backlight minimizes heat and provides extended service life over cold-cathode tubes.
