The 0TG1000.02 terminal guard is produced by B&R Automation and belongs to the 0TG Terminal Guards series. The unit is a compact USB module used in industrial automation systems to hold application-specific data and enforce cryptographic access control on machine terminals. When plugged into a controller or operator panel, it provides nonvolatile storage and hardware-based security so that process parameters, license keys, and configuration files remain tied to the original equipment.
Inside the module, an application memory of 241 Bytes is allocated for variable and parameter storage; this capacity is suited to identifiers, counters, and small configuration records that must travel with the machine. A regulated supply of 5 V delivered by the host port powers the circuitry, and the flash cells support retention of stored data for 10 years without external power. Reprogramming endurance reaches up to 10 million updates, allowing frequent logging or version changes over the life of the machine. For confidentiality and authentication, the controller can invoke 128-bit AES encryption alongside SHA-256, 2048-bit RSA, and other listed algorithms, helping protect transferred values from unauthorized access or alteration.
When status LEDs are disabled, the guard draws only <20 mA; enabling the indicators raises consumption to <60 mA, values that remain within the current budget of standard USB ports on PLCs or HMIs. Data exchange uses the High-Speed USB 2.0 interface while maintaining backward compatibility with USB 1.1 hosts, so legacy controllers can still recognize the device. Physical dimensions of 4.5 mm height, 12 mm width, and 16.7 mm length allow it to fit within crowded terminal strips, and the integrated security core supports public-key schemes such as 224-bit ECC for signed data validation.
