Product Description:
The 0TG1000.01 hardware module from B&R Automation belongs to the 0TG Terminal Guards series and is designed as a compact USB security device for machine controllers. In an automation cell, it plugs into a controller’s front-panel port to hold cryptographic keys, store service data, and authorize firmware, thereby preventing unauthorized changes to program code or parameter sets. Its function is to give the control system a tamper-evident anchor so that operating hours, licensing, and encrypted communications are bound to a single removable component.
For this role, the unit integrates symmetric and asymmetric algorithms. An AES engine works with 128-bit keys for fast bulk encryption, while embedded ECC logic supports 224-bit curves that shorten signature times for field updates. Long-term authentication is handled with an RSA core that uses 2048-bit modulus lengths, and message integrity is derived from the SHA-256 hash function. Applications can place up to 241 bytes of freely definable data inside a protected block, and two independent operating-hour counters allow machine usage to be logged without exposing values to external software.
Stored electronic data is retained for 10 years at room temperature, supporting maintenance cycles that exceed the typical controller life. Communication occurs through the USB interface; backward compatibility with USB 1.1 hosts is maintained, but transfers reach full speed when the host supports high-speed USB 2.0. The module draws only 5 V from the bus, so no auxiliary power wiring is required. Its polycarbonate housing measures 4.5 mm in height, 16.7 mm in length, and 12 mm in width, which lets it fit behind panel doors without interfering with adjacent connectors, while the MSD device class lets bootloaders recognize it as mass storage for secure file exchange.
