B & R Automation manufactures the 0GH-DO479 digital output module for the 0GH PLC Modules series. The unit slides onto the system bus of a B & R controller and provides transistor switching so that 24 V field devices can be driven directly from application code. As part of the I/O segment, it shares backplane power and diagnostics while maintaining isolated output circuitry for reliable operation in automated machinery. Its purpose in industrial automation is to interface logic-level signals with solenoids, indicator lamps, and contactors, allowing programmable sequence control without external relays. This arrangement helps the controller switch field loads directly while keeping the logic side separated from external device wiring.
The module is energized from a nominal field potential of 24 VDC, and each channel sources up to 0.5 A to the load. The high-side transistor array tolerates a line excursion to 30 VDC, while guaranteed conduction starts above 19.5 VDC, preserving deterministic actuation when supply drops occur. Pulse control is possible because the semiconductor outputs switch at 500 Hz, a range suitable for valve modulation or lamp dimming. Off-state leakage is limited to 0.3 mA, keeping residual currents below the threshold of most sensitive coils. For the entire board, the supply rail may carry 8.0 A, and output-to-PLC isolation helps break ground loops and shields the CPU from field transients. The solid-state design also avoids contact wear that is common in mechanical switching devices.
The card presents 16 sourcing points organized into 2 independent groups. Each group contains eight outputs and shares a feed that can conduct 4.0 A continuously. Internal group-to-group isolation confines overload events to the affected half of the module. The housing meets the IP20 touch-safe standard, so the assembly must reside inside a closed cabinet when used in plant environments. A sourcing output circuit and transistor drive scheme eliminate contact wear, while the grouped layout supports clearer fault isolation when one section of the module is affected.
