The 16.F5.MBG-YUZY is an AC axis drive manufactured by KEB for the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. It operates as a closed-loop, field-oriented controller for induction motors, enabling precise torque and speed regulation in packaging lines, conveyors, and similar machinery. By modulating voltage and frequency, the drive allows machine builders to match mechanical demand while limiting energy consumption. It is supplied in the G housing form factor, and its frame corresponds to inverter size code 16.
On the supply side, the drive is designed for a nominal voltage of 400 VAC; at this voltage, its input section draws up to 43 A during continuous operation. Internally, the inverter bridge converts this power into a regulated three-phase output that can deliver a rated apparent power of 23 kVA and a continuous current of 33 A to the motor terminals. Command updates are synchronized with a digital input scan time of 1 ms, and the power devices normally switch at a carrier frequency of 8 kHz, balancing acoustic noise and efficiency. The built-in controller samples two differential analog channels at 12-bit resolution to accept speed or torque references, and a braking resistor with a minimum resistance of 25 Ω can be connected for energy dissipation.
For dynamic applications, the switching frequency can be increased to 16 kHz, which raises control bandwidth at the cost of higher losses. When the inverter operates at rated load, it dissipates 500 W through its aluminum heat sink, while active cooling keeps the baseplate below 90 °C. The power stage supports motors up to 20 HP and uses 10 mm² motor leads. A 50 A gG mains fuse protects the input, and the internal chopper can handle up to 30 A of braking current. An enclosure classification of IP20 means that live parts are protected against finger contact, but the drive must be mounted inside a protective cabinet.
