KEB’s 12.BR.100-6150 braking resistor belongs to the BR Braking Resistors series and is intended for connection to the DC link of KEB drive converters. By converting surplus electrical energy into heat whenever a motor decelerates or a load overhauls, the unit helps keep the DC bus voltage within safe limits and supports predictable braking torque. The compact assembly contains a single resistor element, a thermal switch, and connection terminals, providing a self-contained dissipation path that can be panel mounted close to the drive.

The resistor has a continuous power rating of 230 W, so it can dissipate that amount of heat indefinitely under the stated ambient conditions without exceeding its internal temperature limit. A nominal resistance of 150 Ω sets the current drawn from the DC link and determines how regenerated energy is converted to heat during braking. The device is assigned to the 400 V voltage class used by KEB drives in the 3-phase 400 VAC range. Short duty peaks are permitted up to 4.6 kW, allowing the unit to absorb regenerated energy during rapid stops when the duty cycle is observed. When the internal temperature reaches 160 °C, a normally closed switch opens to signal the control circuit or interrupt braking.
