The 07.BR.100-6620 braking resistor is produced by KEB for the BR Braking Resistors series. It is a passive thermal load used alongside variable-frequency drives to dissipate regenerative energy and prevent DC bus overvoltage events. Within industrial automation, the part connects directly to the drive’s chopper circuit and turns excess electrical energy into heat whenever a motor decelerates or a driven load forces energy back into the inverter. This controlled energy absorption helps protect the converter and connected motor from unstable braking conditions during repeated stopping cycles.
During continuous operation, the resistor can convert up to 56 W of power without surpassing its base temperature. This rating is paired with a duty cycle of 5 %, which means the element may be energized for only a small portion of each minute to remain within thermal limits. Short peaks reach 1.12 kW, providing margin for abrupt deceleration events and brief regenerative bursts. With a resistance of 620 Ω, the component limits current when connected to a bus in the 400 V class. A single internal module carries the load, and the rolled wire core has a cross-section of 1.5 mm² to support even heat distribution during intermittent braking pulses.
