The Bosch Rexroth RD 500 system is a three-phase current drive system for different synchronous and induction motors. It has a modular hardware and software design, allowing easy adaptability for specific drive functions. Requirements ranging from a simple voltage frequency control drive to the highly dynamic flux vector control drive are catered for with the RD 500 system. The drive system offers converters, inverters, and power supply modules for different applications.

The RD51 voltage frequency control drives in the RD 500 system function on a frequency-controlled basis; that is, the set output defines the converter output frequency. It offers an economical drive solution for applications that do not need servo characteristics, such as pumps, ventilators, moving gears, centrifuges, extruders, agitators, and conveyor belts. The RD51.1-4B-055-L-V1-FW is a converter in the RD 51 series. It has an integrated braking chopper and functions with a supply voltage between 380V and 480V with a +/-10% allowance. It is equipped with radio interference suppression filters and line reactors that decrease the harmonics fed back into the line supply.

The RD51.1-4B-055-L-V1-FW is equipped with various interfaces for running, monitoring, and parameterizing the drive system. These interfaces include Interbus S remote bus, Profibus DP slave, CAN open, and Peer-to-Peer coupling with fiber-optic cable. This converter is cooled by forced ventilation outside the cabinet at a high degree of protection. It has a 24V standby power supply that allows control devices to function without a line supply voltage connected to the converter. The Ingress Protection Rating of this converter is IP 20 according to EN 60529; hence, it is touch-proof and resistant to dust and objects greater than 12mm in size.
