Many synchronous and induction motors can be operated using the RD 500 drive system designed and manufactured by Indramat Refu. The high-performance drive system is composed of converters, inverters for DC supply, and rectifier and supply modules that are capable of regenerative feedback into the line supply. Its RD51 drive converters are typically used for applications that do not need servo characteristics. These include pumps, ventilators, and moving gears.

The RD51.1-4B-001-L-NN-FW is a model of Indramat Refu’s RD 51 converter units in its RD 500 drive system. It achieves motion control via voltage frequency control and utilizes a nominal connecting voltage between 380V and 480V with a ±10% tolerance. Because of its modular design and compact size, it is easily mounted in a control cabinet and has a 22.5mm mechanical grid pattern. One advantage of this control cabinet is that it ensures minimal noise radiation from the unit, allowing it to comply with the EMC directives on noise immunity. Additionally, it has integrated radio interference suppression filters and line reactors to reduce the feedback of harmonics into the line supply.

Indramat Refu’s user-friendly REFUwin software tool is used to operate, visualize and parameterize the RD51.1-4B-001-L-NN-FW. The removable user panel with a four-line graphical display on the converter can also be used for these. It has a parameter copy function that permits the transfer of parameters stored on this converter to another. This RD51 converter model is also equipped with an integrated brake chopper and supports the use of firmware. The firmware must be ordered as a separate unit. Since its Ingress Protection category is IP 20, external solid objects over 12mm cannot penetrate the converter.
