The Rexroth RD 500 series is a state-of-the-art universal three-phase drive system for different synchronous and induction motors. The hardware and software modules have a modular design that allows the drive system to be adapted to suit user-specific drive applications. The components of the series include AC drive converters, inverters for DC supply, rectifier, and supply modules. They can be purchased as separate subitems and sometimes, are completely wired into a control cabinet together.

The RD51.1-4B-001-L-C1-FW is a frequency converter model in the RD 500 system specially designed with an emphasis on simple handling. It has integrated radio interference suppression filters and a line reactor to reduce the harmonics fed back into the line supply in compliance with the EMC Directives regarding noise immunity and noise emission. It is made to control electric motors and monitor their operations and has a wide field of applications. These include chemical and process technology, machine tools, hoist and conveyor technology, handling and assembly systems, and packaging and food processing machines.

All connections and terminals of the RD51.1-4B-001-L-C1-FW with voltages between 5V and 50 V are protective low voltages in accordance with IEC 60364-4-41. Its protection class is IP 20 according to EN 60529, which means that it is protected against penetration by objects over 20mm in diameter but not against sprays from water jets. It should be operated at an ambient temperature of 40°C, relative humidity of 95%, and avoid condensation. It should be installed at a setup elevation of over 1000 m. It is also equipped with a removable operator panel which is used to operate, monitor, parameterize, copy parameter sets and transfer them to other devices.
