The EK1101-0050 EtherCAT coupler is produced by Beckhoff within the EK EtherCAT Couplers series. It acts as a fieldbus head that connects a control network to a stack of Beckhoff I/O terminals, forwarding process data between higher-level controllers and the terminal segment. By translating the EtherCAT protocol on the bus side to the internal E-Bus signal inside the terminal row, the unit supports fast and deterministic I/O exchange in industrial automation cells and other distributed control systems.
Its external communication layer uses 2 x RJ45 ports that form an in-line EtherCAT segment supporting a full-duplex data rate of 100 Mbit/s.
