Beckhoff manufactures the AX5206-0000-0020 dual-channel servo drive within the AX Digital Servo Drives series. The module converts three-phase line power into a regulated DC bus and metered phase currents, enabling coordinated motion in packaging machines, assembly cells, and material-handling axes where tight position accuracy and fast cycle times are required for throughput and product consistency. Its dual-channel layout allows two servo axes to be controlled from one housing, which helps reduce cabinet space in multi-axis equipment while keeping motion control centralized inside the drive.
The drive’s DC link withstands 875 VDC, and the integrated capacitor bank supplies 470 µF, which smooths bus ripple during regeneration and stabilizes the control loops. During acceleration, each channel can deliver a peak of 13 A, whereas the sustained nominal current is 9 A, matching medium-inertia servo motors used on conveyors and rotary actuators. Internal conduction and switching losses total 160 W, so cabinet airflow must remove this heat to prevent thermal derating. For single-phase supply situations, the current per channel is 4.5 A, and with a three-phase feed, it reaches 6 A. The device can also draw up to 26 A collectively across both outputs during demanding motion profiles that place a high load on both channels at the same time.
Dynamic braking energy is handled first by an internal chopper that tolerates 14 kW of instantaneous power and dissipates 90 W continuously. Surplus energy can be routed to an external resistor where peaks of 15 kW are permissible, provided the resistance is not below 47 Ω. The aluminum housing measures 317.70 mm in height, 92 mm in width, and 232 mm in depth, yet the assembly weighs only 6 kg, permitting dense multi-axis rack mounting without exceeding typical panel load limits. This arrangement supports coordinated torque control across two motion channels while helping protect the drive electronics and connected motors during deceleration and regenerative operation.
