Product Description:
The AX5140-0000-0202 is a single-axis servo drive produced by Beckhoff as part of the AX Digital Servo Drives series. It converts a three-phase mains supply into a controlled DC link and a pulse-width-modulated output that drives synchronous or induction servomotors in automated machinery. Within a motion system, it delivers regulated current and voltage so the controller can execute precise torque, speed, and position profiles while directing regenerative energy to the brake resistor network. The housing is intended for mounting inside a control cabinet.
The electrical backbone of the unit is sized for an apparent power of 28 kVA on a 400 V AC supply. From that supply, the inverter can deliver a nominal phase current of 40 A and tolerate surges up to 80 A during acceleration or shock loading. The intermediate circuit stores energy in a capacitor bank rated at 1485 µF and operates up to 875 VDC before overvoltage shutdown occurs. A minimum external brake resistance of 22 Ω may be connected so regenerated energy is dissipated safely instead of raising the link voltage. For cabinet layout, the unit requires 185 mm of width and 232 mm of depth, allowing lateral clearance for airflow around the heat sink.
The thermal and dynamic braking capacity affect how the drive handles motor deceleration. Internally, it can absorb short bursts of up to 26 kW, and the continuous brake chopper handles 150 W without additional hardware. If more energy must be removed, an external resistor permits a transient load of 32 kW. Under steady operation, the electronics dissipate 510 W as heat and must stay below an ambient temperature of 50 °C. The aluminum enclosure carries an IP20 rating, weighs 13 kg, and has a height of 317.70 mm so it fits standard control cabinets while still allowing top-entry bus bar connections.
