Product Description:

The AX5101-0000-0202 is a digital servo drive from Beckhoff in the AX Digital Servo Drives series. It conditions incoming line power and delivers controlled PWM voltage to synchronous or induction motors used for positioning, conveying, and coordinated motion in automated equipment. By combining power conversion, current control, and fieldbus communication, the unit serves as the core actuator interface inside a control cabinet. This allows PLC software to command precise speed and torque profiles while maintaining closed-loop motor control during machine operation.

During continuous duty, the drive supplies a nominal motor phase current of 1.5 A, while short acceleration bursts can reach 4.5 A. The current ceiling can also be lowered to 0.35 A so small test motors are not overexcited. Internally, the DC link can rise to 875 VDC, and a bank of 235 µF capacitance smooths the bus to absorb regeneration energy. Line protection is handled by 10 AT single-phase fuses or 6 AT three-phase fuses, and the logic supply is protected by a 3.4 AF fuse. Output terminals are rated for 41 A, which matches the connector's thermal limit. These protective values work with the minimum 47 Ω requirement for any external brake resistor so the switching devices stay within their current rating.

The integrated brake chopper can dissipate up to 14 kW momentarily and 50 W continuously; for heavier loads, an external network may handle peaks of 15 kW. The housing measures 92 mm wide, with a depth of 232 mm excluding connectors and a height of 317.70 mm, allowing side-by-side installation with other AX modules while maintaining airflow. The braking limits must be observed when sizing any external resistor network, and the enclosure dimensions help maintain clearances in densely packed multi-axis cabinets.
