Maintaining closed loop control is a major advantage of servomotors in advanced industrial and robotics applications. However, this is only possible depending on the drive mechanism attached to the servomotor. Due to this realization, the BL-MH, BL-MQ, and BL-MS series of servomotors made by the international automation equipment manufacturer, Okuma, were further optimized for precision, reliability and quality through incorporation with the BL-D series of servo-amplifiers.      

The BL-D100A is a BL-D servo-amplifier designed to integrate with several brushless servomotors within the BL-M category. The BL-D servo amplifiers mostly have the same properties, in terms of compactness of structure, signalling/current control techniques i.e. in form of pulse width modulation via a solid-state device (IGBT for example), and interfacing with a servo processor control board for logical input requirements. However, the main distinguishing factor is in the number of axis and power unit capacity: this is usually indicated in their naming convention. For the BL-D100A, it is a single-axis drive with a power unit capacity of 100. This power capacity implies a compatibility with all Okuma made brushless servomotors within this rated power unit requirement. While this drive is optimized for its compatible Okuma made motors, it could also perform optimally with non-Okuma motors. Being a single unit drive, the BL-D100A supports only a single servomotor for operation at a time—once the servomotor is within its specified range. This servo-amplifier is very suitable for operations that require high torque and speed dynamics, as it produces a significant current in both its continuous and intermittent duty modes.

The BL-D100A comes with a few integrated circuits for limiting current surges and overvoltage in erratic operating conditions. This helps preserve the integrity of the overall automation, and ensures the attached servomotor maintains performance within an expected range of efficiency.
