The Bosch DDS03.1-W050-RS01-01 is the basic unit for a DDS controller. The modular architecture allows controller adaptation to varying customer requirements. The DDS03.1-W050-RS01-01 belongs to the DDS03.1 series of controllers. It has five slots for plug in modules. Slot U1 on the basic unit is reserved for a command communication module. The command module installed on the DDS03.1-W050-RS01-01 supports SERCOS, which is a standard for high-speed serial communication. The physical medium used by SERCOS is fiber optics. SERCOS supports 2 Mbps and 4 Mbps data transmission speeds. Nodes on a SERCOS network can be connected in ring topology. Ring topology allows nodes to communicate even if a single cable is damaged or if a node becomes unavailable. Slot U5 on the DDS03.1-W050-RS01-01 reserved for the software module. Both the controller firmware and operating parameters are stored on the software module.

The software module supports copy function: the contents can be copied easily to other software module. Another advantage of the modular approach is that the software module can be removed from a faulty controller and installed on a replacement unit. This allows rapid commissioning of the replacement unit and minimizes downtime. The DDS03.1-W050-RS01-01 supports heat technology: heat dissipation takes place inside the cabinet. For this reason large cabinets may be required for controller mounting. The working temperature range is 0 to 45 degrees Celsius. Rated current output of the DDS03.1-W050-RS01-01 is 50 Amps. The feedback method supported by the controller is resolver feedback. The firmware for the unit is ordered separately from the hardware. Installation errors can affect controller performance and lead to system malfunction. Therefore only trained personnel should work on the controller and maintain it.
