The EK1814 is an EtherCAT coupler from Beckhoff Automation GmBH. The EtherCAT coupler is integrated with standard digital inputs and outputs. There are four inputs and four outputs. The device is one of the EK1800 series of couplers of its kind from the manufacturer. It can be used to couple the EL series of EtherCAT terminals and 100BASE-TX EtherCAT networks. The unit has a compact design that makes it suitable for applications with a limited number of inputs and outputs. The implementation of the digital inputs and outputs are done using a 1-wire technique. This technique ensures that no tools are needed for the wiring that can be implemented with a direct plug-in encompassing ferrules or solid-wire conductors. The coupler is available with a warranty of one year.

The EtherCAT coupler can be used to couple a maximum of 65,534 EtherCAT terminals. The product supports lamp, inductive and ohmic type loads. This unit must be entered as a Direct mode device under the Devices node in Config mode in the TwinCAT system manager. It has two RJ45 bus interfaces. The RJ45 socket at the bottom can be used to connect other EtherCAT devices. The maximum cable length allowed between any two bus couplers is 100m. The spring actuation of the conductor connection can be done using a screwdriver.

This EtherCAT coupler has a short circuit current rating of less than 2A. It must be mounted on a 35mm mounting rail that conforms to EN 60715 specifications. The unit should not be allowed to come in contact with insulating materials such as plastic films and synthetic fibers. The solid wire conductors have a rated cross-section of 0.08 sq.mm to 1.5 sq.mm. The product has a relative humidity range of 95% without condensation. It is UL Listed and CE Certified.
