Beckhoff has a new automation technology philosophy that revolves around open control and universal automation solutions made for different applications ranging from intelligent building automation to CNC machining tools. The EK1122 is one of the series of EtherCAT junctions developed and manufactured by Beckhoff. 

The EK1122 series is known for its reliability, simplicity and durability. The EK1122-0080 is part of the EK1122 series by Beckhoff. This junction is a 2-port EtherCAT junction. This junction enables EtherCAT star topology configuration. A modular EtherCAT star can be achieved by connecting several EK1122 units in a station. The EK1122-0080 has a ‘Hot Connect’ feature for changing topologies through uncoupling and coupling during operation. The coupled EhterCAT component can be quickly linked to data communication after connecting normally. This EtherCAT connection also has a ‘Fast-Hot Connect’ technology. This reduces the connection time significantly while enabling faster tool changes. The Fast Hot-Connect ports can only be connected to each other; therefore, they are specially labeled.

The EK1122-0080 has two RJ45 bus connections and uses power supply from E-bus. This EtherCAT junction weighs around 70 grams and must be operated with temperatures below 85˚C. The mounting of the EK1122-0080 should be done on a 35 mm mounting rail that conforms to EN 60715. This EtherCAT junction has a vibration that conforms to EN 60068-2-6 and a shock resistance that conforms to EN 60068-2-27. It also has a CE, cULus and ATEX protection.  The EK1122-0080 has a protection rating of IP 20 therefore, it must be protected against any exposure to water or dust. Any unused ports must also be fitted with blind plugs to avoid dust ingress.
