~ Brian Tomlin Excellent Arizona, USAThe CX8010 is a programmable EtherCAT Slave controller by Beckhoff that comes with a 32-bit ARM-based CPU. The CX8010 controller is used as a slave device for fieldbus systems (higher-level), or to process PLC programs. Unlike the non-programmable EtherCAT couplers in the EK series that serve as a gateway between the connected EtherCAT terminal and the connected fieldbus system, the CX8080 can be programmed. This means it can run on its own control system. It can be purchased from Wake Industrial with a one-year warranty.
The CX8010 EtherCAT Slave controller is programmed and made through an Ethernet Interface, which is also used to connect the controller with an ordinary network. The EtherCAT Slave comes with an integrated & captive 1-second UPS, which provides the needed energy to save important data in case the supply voltage fails. This allows important data to be saved in a non-volatile manner without the need of a backup battery. The CX8010 is a versatile and high-performance controller when it comes to slave fieldbus connection. This has been made possible by its high-performance 32-bit ARM processor that is energy saving, TwinCAT PLC with numerous PLC libraries, as well as the EtherCAT that serves as an I/O bus.
For installation, the CX8010 controller can be easily snapped on a mounting rail. To do that, the block should be positioned on the mounting rail, and then pushed in slightly until it connects on its right hand side. The connection is indicated by a click that is distinctive. You can use a screwdriver to push the lock up on the left-hand side, thus turning it, and making it to engage audibly. The CX8010 controller must be installed in a housing with IP 54 protection for gas. The installation of the controller must be done following the 60079-15 guidelines.
