The CX5140 series comes with an Intel Atom® quad-core processor boasting 1.91 GHz of clock rate. This brings in the possibility of having a multi-core processor in an Embedded PC segment. The hardware interface is not too different from the existing CX5000 series, so upgrading would require no extra measures. The connectivity options include a DVI-I interface, two separate - Gigabit-capable Ethernet interfaces, along with four USB 2.0 ports. Through the additional option interface, you can create a multitude of connectivity options by equipping it with K-bus or E-bus terminals.

The CX5140 series is different from competing series because of its fan-less design and efficient power consumption. You can use it to implement PLC/motion or PLC control procedures with or without visualized guidance, depending on the TwinCAT runtime environment used. You can order the CX5140-0175 without any OS or choose between Windows Embedded Standard 7 P 32 bit, Windows Embedded Standard 7 P 64 bit, Windows Embedded Compact 7, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2016 LTSB 32 bit, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2016 LTSB 64 bit, and the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2019 LTSC 32 bit.The TwinCAT Runtime options include having no TwinCAT, TwinCAT 2 PLC runtime, TwinCAT 2 NC I runtime, and the TwinCAT 2 NC PTP runtime.
